For our final project, we interviewed 20 people, regarding our topic, which is religion. Our group decided on the question "Why do you believe in your religion?"/ "Bakit ka naniniwala sa relihiyon mo?" This is to tackle the beliefs instilled on people as part of the Social Institution of Religion. Also, we would like to tackle the SI (Symbolic Interactionism) part of religion by asking how religion is represented in the eyes of our respondents. We interviewed 2 kids (Robi, 7; Jana, 4), 2 teens (Andrei, 19; Andea, 14), 2 Adults (Annie, 42; Pat, 43), 2 professionals (Richard, 48; Jenny, 45), 2 upper class (Leodivina, 63; John, 25), 2 lower class (Anthony, 45; Belen, 44 , 2 religious (Sister Imani, 55; and Fr. Odon, 50), 1 father (Jose, 47), 1 mother (Maida, 53), 1 lolo (Fred, 66), 1 lola, (Corazon, 60), 1 student (Joey, 16), and 1 teacher (Joan, 40). Most, if not all are Catholics.

A lot of our respondents did not know what to answer initially because they believe they’re born into it and that they simply #believe. After careful thought, some were able to elaborate on how they felt and some couldn’t find words other than “I just do” or “I was raised that way”. Those who were able to elaborate have similar responses though, attributing their belief to how they see and feel it in their lives and to how it is a factual thing through what’s been taught to them. We also saw that despite the different age groups, social class, social institutions, everyone generally thought along the same lines as others. This is probably because religion is one of those things that people have in common with each other, regardless of differences. While being very similar, the responses were also unique in the way that it is how they personally feel about religion and their belief, Symbolic Interactionism explains why this is so. This holds at least for Filipinos who have a religion, if not, just for our respondents.
